I need to rant.
If Uncle Ned is friends with tons of white men, including Europeans and the President of the United States, why on earth can't he speak English properly? Like it's just plain racist.
Same goes for the servants (I keep wanting to call them slaves because that's the way they're portrayed even though slavery was abolished in the late 1800s). They were raised in the houses of white people.
