the casual misogyny in the way historical women are discussed is quite uncomfortable. why do we spend pages and pages on henry ii's motivations but practically call empress matilda everything but a bitch. she was literally the only legitimate claimant to the throne UGHHH maybe i'm too much of a hater for nonfiction for a popular audience but this is starting to really irk me 😭
