Only a few pages in and already I got my money's worth. I've been looking for a guide to "meta-programming" and thinking about problems for a long time, and I think I just found it.

This is going to be a slow read - but I intent to try as many of the programming problems as I can to learn from it.

Revisiting this book again off my bookshelf. Why am I reading so many books and making very little progress. Well, the study type books I'm reading the most. No fun books.

Looking to see if it's a good book for mentees. It's certainly rigorous and had lots of good tips as well as string explanations of data structures, but grounding it in C++ may limit its use. Certainly wouldn't be a first book I'd give a modern programmer, although it would be perfect for anyone starting in 2000, or maybe someone who knows a language same now wants a higher level understanding.

Even though I'm not familiar with the C++ language the problem solving approaches are educational and understandable so far.

If you're unaware of all possible actions you could take, you may be unable to solve the problem

I think I’m a bit past a lot of the content in this book. I think it would be good for someone who’s been working in a software company for about 6 months to a year and wants to advance their abilities. Very well written and well organised. I now love sudoku and play it every night. It was a good opportunity to learn C++ which is very different to the languages I’ve used before.

If one part of the problem is heavily constrained, that’s a great place to start
because you can make progress without worrying that you are spending time
on work that will later be undone.

...it's only problem solving if it doesn't violate the constraints.

Extremely basic at the moment. Also, the code samples are awful. Be careful with this book.

A book that focuses solely on improving the reader's problem-solving abilities, instead of trying to teach syntax or coding principles. Great read, so far!
