Falsified reports to the crown by the conquistadors.
Letters from friars beseeching the crown to put a stop to the atrocities.
Animales o Alemanes.
Would it have been enough for the average Spanish citizen to just *know *? As we do now?

“The Spaniards have shown not the slightest consideration for these people, treating them not as brute animals—indeed, I would to God they had done and had shown them the consideration they afford their animals—so much as piles of dung in the middle of the road.”

I really wish we could have an account from the perspective of the conquistadors. In what right mind do you find it ok to feed Amerindian slaves to Amerindian slave soldiers

The atrocities enacted by the conquistadors onto the Amerindians are so brutal. I have to wonder how the average European would have felt about this treatment. Only the few rich and powerful had an incentive for this colonization; I look towards today and think of the average American’s desire to invade Venezuela or Greenland

A very interesting perspective so far.
The Cuba chapter has captivated me the most as it tells the perspective of the natives.
They wonder if those same proud pillaging Christians go to the heaven that they preach.
They wonder if the God that the Christians worship is the shiny yellow metals that can be found in their lands
