I think that the theme of this book is that family isn't an important thing, it is EVERYTHING! I know this because Grace picked a life with her brothers and new born sister living with her parents and uncle in Ohio. Even though she might not have the most luxurious life that she could have had with the Hammond's but she is surrounded by the people that need her, and she needs most.

Book 2/3- 9/29- Grace finally decided to go to Ohio with her family. It was a really hard decision, she "already felt as though she was part of the Hammond family. She knew she had slipped comfortably into a new life." But, she had to decide between the life of luxury, and loving step in parents, and all of her brothers and new sister and maybe living a little bit without quite as many luxuries, like indoor plumbing.

book 2/3- 9/28- In the book I learned that one of Grace's main weaknesses is her family. One example of that is on page 201 when Grace has a hard time staying focused in school after her brother dies she had "a hole" just like Miss Louise. Another example of this is when she cuts her hair for the first time, she feels the need to be independent at the moment, but after it happens she feel like she broke a connection.

Book 2/3- 9/27- On page 168 I noticed that Grace hadn't thought about the decision that she was going to have to make or her family in a long time. Then when I read the next page she got a letter from her brother and it all came flooding back. Later, on page 180, Miss Louise makes the decision official, this has strongly effected her character because she can't be as happy knowing that she has to chose.

book 2/3 9/27- On page 159 Grace realizes that she has a HUGE decision to make, I think that this will effect her character because now she is burdened with choosing between her family and a poor life, and an adopted family and a plentiful life.

Book 2/3 9/25- I could really see what Grace's new wardrobe looks like, the author did a great job with the descriptions in this book.

I think that the Hammonds have good intentions but they're impact isn't going to work out.

At first, I thought that the Hammonds would create a positive change in Grace's character. But then I found that if anything they will make her more sad, depressed and angry about being separated from even more of her family. I know this because to cope with the sadness she "opened Miss Bestsy's jewlery box on the dressing table and took the star-shaped diamond brooch" (page 111)
