Yellow Card Man is another story that provides background to Bacigalupi's The Windup Girl, following Tranh as he tries to survive in Bangkok and introducing the Windup Girl... (3.5 stars)

Softer was ok... a man 'dealing' with murdering his wife.... not my favorite... 2.5 stars

The concept of Pop Squad was kind of disturbing, basically having babies being illegal and the Pop Squad's job to arresting the women....... Rejoov (rejuvenation, longer life with no kids) vs fecundity.... and the main character's doubts about his career.... 3.0 stars

The Tamarisk Hunter was interesting, but just that. Ending was kind of weak. (2.5 stars). The Calorie Man seems to explore themes expanded on in his novel The Windup Girl. Hard to grasp at times but ultimately a very interesting story (4.0 stars)

The Pasho was interesting, long held grudges, quarantine, a priest (Pasho) returns home and must deal with grandfather who wants to rekindle an old war.. (3.5 stars)

The People of Sand and Slag.... Interesting setting... I don't know that I liked it...

The Fluted Girl was interesting. Two sisters, genetically transformed into musical instruments who play each other.. Weird? Yes, indeed. Will they escape?

First story, Pocketful of Dharma was excellent. Homeless Chinese boy living in Chengdu under monolith of organic building. Steals special glasses, is 'hired' to deliver object, small blue cube, to man with white gloves. What is the cube, you ask? That's the story you need to read then, eh? Excellent. 4.0 stars
