Well, we definitely know what book three will be about, don't we? The ending felt abrupt but overall, I liked this better than #1.

I still think Barachiel, despite his "reasons" is a cold bastard. And the "mysterious" angel/father of Maria is totally obvious! I am liking this more than the first, though.

Xenia brings to mind Anna from Supernatural's fifth season and I have issues with the idea of Chalice instructing the squires of the Hatchet Knights. She's been a knight less than two months, is still figuring out the parameters of being one, and has only just met the other surviving members of her order... that really doesn't scream "instructor" to me.

Huh, well, that wasn't at all how I expected this to start. Maybe I'll like this better than its predecessor.

I really like this series. I'm surprised that my love for book 1 wasn't felt as much by other reviewers. This book is very easy to read, tons of action. The very beginning was a bit sad regarding Aydin's gargoyle.
