Mọi thứ đều ướt, cả da, cả thịt đắp dưới da. Tất tật, anh có cảm giác vậy, ướt sũng nỗi u sầu không ngừng thổi từ đại dương vào, nhận chìm mọi thứ trong thành phố này, khiến con người ta hoá điên, bắt người mới đến nhảy qua thành tàu xuống biển để biến đi, không để lại chút dấu vết nào.

Honestly, what the hell, these characters are SO in depth and well done. Brilliant family saga so far

I'm not even 70 pages into this and Eugen Ruge has already painted such a vivid image of these characters. I am hooked

Никогда бы не догадалась, что "Женя" в немецком варианте будет Eugen (Ойген). Хотя это абсолютно логично.

Unter normalen Umständen würde ich das Buch jetzt einfach abbrechen und aussortieren.

Ich finde den Anfang schon grauenvoll...

Ich habe jetzt knapp über die Hälfte gelesen und ich befürchte, ich höre jetzt auf.

Hmmm.

Ich bin mir noch nicht sicher, was das Buch mir erzählen will - außer einer Familiengeschichte. Kommt mir zeitweise etwas trocken vor.

Ich lese vermutlich wieder zu viele Bücher gleichzeitig. (Und warum spielen gefühlt ständig Geschichten zur Zeiten der Wende in fucking Berlin?)

Mới đọc được chục trang đã thấy yêu. Sao tự nhiên mọc đâu ra người dịch hay thế. Mình vừa đọc vừa tưởng tượng xem bản gốc nó như nào, nhưng hóa ra bản gốc tiếng Đức, mình lại không biết chữ nào. Thế có nhục không!

đọc lại thấy xúc động hơn lần đầu, cái chương đầu thấy u ám hơn :'(

Tôi đọc tiểu thuyết không để tìm kiếm điều gì lớn lao, mà để tìm những chi tiết, vụn vặt, nhỏ nhặt được kể lại cách thành thực, và bởi thành thực nên tinh tế. Và tôi đã tìm thấy những đoạn như thế trong Thời nắng lịm, chẳng hạn đoạn Kurt nhớ về người anh trai yểu mệnh của mình sau khi nhìn thấy chiếc Trabi rung rinh, hay đoạn Alexander gặp lại người yêu sau mấy tuần trong doanh trại huấn luyện.

i don't really have any idea what's going on at all

Halfway through now. Enjoying it. The switches back and forth in time are a bit confusing, but help a lot in building up the story from the points of view of the different characters.

Interesting portrait of a family (4 generations) and recent German history from pre-war to 2001. Chapters move across the timeline yet there is some order in it nonetheless. Chapters also focus on one member of the family, and like a jigsaw, adding each time some new aspects of the person's environment and timeframe. Ruge keeps himself and the reader at an observer's distance.

You would think something good would have happened by now. I don't like this book but am intent on finishing it.

Can't let it go but it is midnight!

Unlikely that I will finish it. So far an uninteresting story, very slow to develop, confusing layout and stilted translation. But I'll give it another chapter or so before I give up.
