I'm glad he introduced Sue, moves the story along Patricia was getting dull.

I think it's a great thing to read books written so long ago without a critical eye different times different mentalities that we have learned from. But I think as a hunter living in AZ it's important to read about Zane Grey's take on what happened during the deer push from the grand canyon area 🤔 liking it so far just need to keep an open mind

Wow, that is anticlimactic and tragic and just sad. Worst planning and probably wasn't even possible. But this happened in real life

Interesting that "making love" hadn't changed from Jane Austen's time, well over 100 years. I really want to understand "it will be all day with you" but I guess just he's smitten.

Will we get to hear the actual scandal? Seems such nonsense that one can't look into someone's eyes or say I like you flat out. Sounds exhausting.

Outside of the odd dialogue and terms that are outdated (although Judas H Priest is funny, and that's mighty white of you are interesting to see in a hundred-year old context) it's interesting and sad to see that the problems we have now around conservation and hunting are often the same, and the same concerns with giving tourists access to the wilderness and the problems that causes

Sue and Patricia at it again. Blushing and telling each other how pretty they are. And do we need two bedrolls?

Interestingly, a character said this phrase in the last CJ Box novel I read. It shocked me there, but I think now the character meant it with sarcasm but no racial undertones.

"if I was a man, it'd shore be all day with me" this is due with a devouring look... Wtf.patricia calls her a sad flatterer, and sue says just wait u tik im not afraid to say what I feel.

They go to a hopi dance, then sue gets to see Patricia's jewels and lingerie....lol. but it's like oh these are pretty woman things. I'm a rough Texas girl

They hope to be friends. I guess it has to be official

So they're planning to go up the north rim. A harder undertaking that requires outfitting to cook and stay overnight, it's more remote, rougher country.

There's a big deal about the other guide ..I guess it's a plot sort of to give him time with Sue. And she's uncomfortable with that. Which just sounds lovely /s. Such an odd way of talking again, no one can say outright what they mean.

They gave Patricia a mule that likes to go to the edge and look down lol but it's fine he's completely safe.

One of the trail guides grabbed sue up and kissed her like his buddy suggested, and she socked him one (good for her)

I've had a hard time imagining what everyone is wearing. Sue and Patricia are both glad the other isn't a painted flapper...the trail clothes are clear but I don't know about everyday

I'm very torn between trying to understand this 100 year old way of talking, and giving it up and reading it as queer. It's delightful lol
