“If you are content to live without serving God, I am not; and if you are willing to let these hours roll by without doing something to extend the kingdom of Jesus, let me be gone from you; for I must fight for God! There must be victories won for him! Hell shall not forever laugh at our inactivity, and heaven shall not eternally weep at our sloth!”
Slightly abridged quote, but one of my favorites so far.

It’s funny, after reading a couple hundred of his sermons day after day, I’ve actually started to feel like I really know the man!

Incredible preaching, clarity of gospel, and compelling earnestness.

3/10 done. His words even in writing manifest an earnestness and plainness that so often seem lacking now. In closing a sermon, he says:
“If you are damned, it will not be for want of preaching to you, and it shall not be for want of praying for you. God knoweth that if my heart could break of itself, it would, for your souls, how earnestly I long for you in the bowels of Christ Jesus…”
