Maybe its the climate change combined with the degradation of US gov, but I've been thinking a *lot* about the Great Depression/Dust Bowl. The author writes from first hand experience and is similar age to my grandma who was also raised in Oklahoma during the same time and place that the events in the book occur. So far the psyche of the narrative is hauntingly familiar and explaining a lot about my upbringing...
