I was expecting this one to come across as silly. A machine, possessed, comes to life. But I felt a tingling across my shoulders for the entire second half of the story. An awful, dreadful feeling came over me when the main characters 3 year old was mentioned. I had to google spoilers. The spoilers made me giggle and think it was silly. And it may be, in theory, but in execution it is chilling.

The main character is a psychopath. He would have made a good character in The Stand. I adore a good post apocalyptic story. Leave it to Mr. King to throw in the bloating and other disgusting symptoms of Captain Trips. This was the first line of this short story was a fantastic hook.
