i love the mix of mythical/historical references - thor, poseidon, al-jazari

as i sat upon the prow the next thing came to pass

- its body burst upon the deck; its death seemed no great loss, it looked as old as time itself (i love how this seemed to have ended at the third line for impact and then comes back to finish it with); it was just an albatross
- "the fishermen all stared at me and spoke in ancient tongue; archaic and foreboding words berated what i'd done" - the callback!

the drowsy world of autumn of overripe excess was changing right before his eyes to hoary abjectness (WOAH)
