Five page, single paragraph monologue was exhausting. Dostoyevsky why do you do this?

When the narrator says things like: “If I had loved you for 20 years, I still couldn’t have loved you more than I do right now.” he’s expressing idealised love. It goes to show the impact of living in isolation, immersed in fantasy and idealised visions of connection, beauty and purpose. Dostoevsky shows us that those who live in their heads experience feelings more deeply than reality can sustain.

The book describes a “a dreamer” (the protagonist) as someone who makes his home in an inaccessible corner kind of like a tortoise. Interestingly when an acquaintance comes to visit they do not seem to have easy flowing conversations. Acquaintances seem to approach with confusion and walk away. I think this is “social loneliness”. When you have human presence yet there is no laughter, lively remark.

“Well then you begin to dream, and you become so lost in your thoughts that before you know it, you’re marrying a Chinese prince… but sometimes dreaming is a good thing! But then, God only knows! Particularly if there is something to think about without dreaming.”

I've always been fond of this book since I first read it when I was young. I can confidently say that it has shaped me in some way. it's been my favorite book ever since. I've always related to The dreamer, his words always touched me deeply and I've always seen myself through it, it made me immediately fall in love with the book throughout the years that I couldn't stop myself from rereading it over and over.

me gusta la escritura pero es un poco raro todo, ¿cómo vas a conocer a una mujer de dos minutos y decirle que confías en ella y todo el rollo? pero bueno
