I give this book enough of a chance but giving up on it now! very interested in the history and wanting to learn more about it but I don’t think this book is the one. It does a terrible job I think. Very hard to follow because so many names and places are being introduced but their introductions are not well done. Also quotes another book for half the time so gets confusing what you’re reading half the time.

The exact sequence of events that led to the inavasion of Morocco by France concerns only indirectly the story of the Glaoui brothers.

Black slaves were originally imported from Sudan or Timbuktu. Slaves were encouraged - forced, in fact - to breed fast and early. The children were inspected regularly for signs of puberty and were mated as soon as they were considered fruitful.
