It’s that time of the year again where I’m deeply bone-sad and cold about everything and everyone. It’s mourning and it’s sour like tooth rot. I’m sick, I have misdirected love to give to broken things, and Salinger is like a cup of hot chamomile tea with lemon and honey because I fold back into myself when I’m with him and steam steam steam

My first time reading J. D. Salinger! So far so good. I like his sharp writing style. The first story was an interesting look at PTSD and how it was handled and perceived by others at the time (not well)

The tricky thing about reading a short story collection is that sometimes you finish a story and then you can’t really start another one, and then what are you supposed to do??? Be alone with your thoughts???????

my average rating rn for these short stories is 3.8/5.
and we all know that the average is going to go up.
why do we know this?

one of the cuntiest descriptions from “uncle wiggly”:
“I mean you didn’t really know Walt,” said Eloise, at a quarter to five, lying on her back on the floor, a drink balanced upright on her small-breasted chest… Mary Jane giggled. She was lying on her stomach on the couch, her chin on the armrest, facing Eloise. Her drink was on the floor within reach”

the DESCRIPTIONS!! the way the descriptions make me feel like i’m watching a movie… i love how on the surface the stories are just in depth descriptions of interactions that probably last 30 minutes at most… but you’re already attached to the characters and can derive meaning from something that is traditionally a boring everyday interaction

the first story i had read separately and liked before buying the book… but after reading “uncle wiggly in connecticut” i am reminded how much i like salingers writing style and i’m impressed by how well he can develop characters in so little time. and somehow how he can very subtly create a specific vibe 💢💢 escapist literature fr
