Status Updates From Kings of Morning

Quite the excellent prologue: gives us our protagonists (though are they are heroes?), sets the stage, hints of romance, chivalry, war, and death, and all of that in 2 pages. Nicely done.

The only character I care about in this book is Rictus. Everyone else can go down in flames.

I think the author forgot the Kefren were, like, a foot taller than the Macht and their features barely human-like. Oh whatever. Everything is annoying. If it were the first book of the trilogy, I would've stopped reading.

OMG, how annoying. But of course Kurun and Roshana survived. Gasp!

That awkward moment when you don't want the "good" characters to be rescued but want them to be killed and done with.

Okay, no gay this book, nope :(

Agh, this story of Kurun is so annoying I can barely make myself read further. Well, he is supposed to represent Bagoas, apparently the future love interest of Corvus (who is Alexander) - but he just doesn't cut it. He sticks out like a couch-cast actress in an otherwise decent movie.

Me sigue gustando, pero es cierto que es la segunda vez que me pasa lo mismo con Kearney, al final sus novelas se repiten demasiado y cuando ya llevas 3 o 4 me canso.

‘For absent friends,’ he said. And he tossed the empty jar back to Druze with a smile.
Then he turned and limped away down the passageway, leaning now on the stick, now on the slender frame of the boy beside him. Ardashir and Druze watched him go, the stick clicking on the marble floor, his shadow passing along the walls until he was round the corner and out of sight.

Great action scenes, no character is beyond death's touch. I also love the chapter titles. Both armies getting closer and closer to that battle that everyone believes will eclipse the battle of The Ten Thousand fought 30 years before.

‘They think I am a monster, Kuthra. The spoilt, twisted product of my mother’s ambition. Perhaps they are right. But I will tell you something they do not know.’ He paused, lowered his voice almost as if afraid.
‘My brother, Rakhsar; so charming, so quick with his wit and his smile...He is worse, far worse than I.’

What I love about this series is Paul Kearney shows you both sides of the war, in fact you are allowed to root for who ever you want, there are great characters on both sides, there's no 'bad guys' here. One might say we simply have men with conflicting ambitions.

This just might be the best book in the trilogy. Loving it.

Too much on the Kufr right now and not enough on the Macht particularly Rictus, Corvus, and Fornyx. Other than the brief prologue we have yet to see any of the Macht.

Better than the prior 2 books in the series so far!

The beginnings has the makings of a truly epic clash.

A good ending to a March across the middle empire.

Excellent so far... As expected.
