It's a fascinatingly magical world, but dang, if the format of this book isn't keeping me from making progress with it.

Anyhow. This chapter also contained this familiar trope, which was no surprise: "had rested a callused hand on her back".

Much better than the terribly boring beginning half, but still not doing enough.

Feels rather like Broken Earth with it's lore and vehemence.

Predictably, I fell asleep on this. Not because of the book, though. Intriguing first chapter; curious to see where this goes.

This book needs to be more widely available! Had to download a whole new app to get it... and then there's no Read Aloud possibility. Which means, this will irrevocably be left on the sidelines waiting for the rarest of occasion I'd be able to settle to eye-reading... and do so for more than couple pages before falling asleep.

I predict this is gonna be slooow.

I love this so far, but my brain has just not been focused enough to give it the attention it deserves. Putting it on hold for a bit - I may need to skim through the first bit again when I come back to it.

This prose/worldbuilding/intensity can easily stand alongside Jemisin's Broken Earth.
