This is one of the heaviest books I've read in a while. There was never a point at which I both identified with and respected any of the characters. That being said, the metaphors in this book are absolutely amazing.

Not bad overall. There are moments of hilarity and moments of linguistic brilliance, but the end result gives the sense that Robbins was trying REALLY hard to be "different."

This is an intriguing analysis of the Japanese educational system from a Western perspective. I enjoyed it very much, but I am also quite interested in Japanese culture and am seeking employment as an English teacher in Japan.

A Farewell to Arms is an excellent view into the reasons people choose whether or not to fight, and WWI is an excellent stage. The characters are constantly reevaluating their allegiances and measuring their fortitude.
