I was born in New Jersey, but moved to the Dallas, Texas area when I was nine. I was a radioman in the US Coast Guard during Desert Storm, have traveled extensively around the US, and have visited Europe, Canada, Mexico, and Peru, sometimes for business, sometimes for pleasure. For brief periods, I lived in California and Florida, but my heart was always in Texas. I have a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Dallas and M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington. I have worked in many industries from Oil and Gas exploration, which I absolutely loved and where I met my geologist wife, to telecommunications, publishing, and banking, mostly as a software and systems engineer. I currently live in Rowlett, Texas ...more

If the words aren't flowing, or I have a problem with timeline or structure (which I have a lot), I step back from what I am working on and try working on something else for a while. That's why I have so many stories in the works. Another thing you can do is go back to your outline, assuming you have one, and try writing on a different part of the story. I can tell you, some of the longer stories I have (some I have worked on for years) are not written in chronological order. Sometimes I write the end before I write the beginning. Just because you not "in the zone" where you write seven chapters and don't realize it's four in the morning, don't worry. A paragraph here and there will add up in the long run.(less)

If you write expecting to become rich and famous, I wish you all the luck in the world, but chances are you'll still have a day job (like me) and writing will be something you do as a creative outlet. And you know what? That is the best part about being a writer - having that creative outlet. You have something to say, so say it. Hopefully people will read and enjoy what you have to say, but even if you don't have a big audience, it doesn't matter. I write because I enjoy it. I love developing characters, and experimenting with different genres, and researching new things that I can put into my stories. Just like a good book can take me away to another place, writing takes me away to another place, too, but it's a place of my own imagination, and sometimes even I don't know where I'll end up.(less)
