“Πάντα στη ζωή μας βασανιζόμαστε μ’ αυτά τα αν. Μια λεξούλα, δυο γράμματα μόνο, βαρίδια στις τσέπες μας. Φτάνουμε σε μια ηλικία όμως που λέμε «αρκετά!» και το εννοούμε. Τα πράγματα θα μπορούσαν να ήταν καλύτερα ή χειρότερα, κι αυτό είναι κάτι που ίσως θα μπορούσαμε να αποτρέψουμε, ίσως και όχι. Ποτέ δεν ξέρουμε και ποτέ δεν θα μάθουμε. Σε κάποιο σταυροδρόμι της ζωής μας –όπου πιθανότατα θεωρούμε πως αργήσαμε να βρεθούμε– έχουμε δύο επιλογές: είτε να εξακολουθήσουμε να τριβελίζουμε τους εαυτούς μας, να τους κρίνουμε για τις επιλογές τους και να τους χτυπάμε ξανά και ξανά, είτε να ακολουθήσουμε το μονοπάτι με τα πολλά δέντρα. Σ’ αυτό, όποια στιγμή και να στρέψουμε το βλέμμα μας προς τα πίσω, δεν θα δούμε τίποτα. Ο ορίζοντας είναι μπροστά. Μόνο μπροστά. Και προχωρώντας πετάμε σιγά-σιγά τα βαρίδια «αν» απ’ τις τσέπες μας και αλαφρώνουμε. Ανακουφίζεται η ψυχή μας, αγαλλιάζει· και τα πόδια μας βγάζουν φτερά.”
