At this point, I'm barely through the book and already I'm running into some issues with it. It seems like Neil Gaiman is going for that mysterious, magical vibe, and by no means is that a bad thing. What I'm having trouble with is that so far in the story the way he gets that feeling across is through unanswered questions and unexplained mini stories. Because of the combination of flat-out odd and seemingly irrelevant scenes, and the uninterested main character that seems fine with not questioning anything going on around him, I can't help but be afraid all the mysteries this book poses will go unanswered.
Aside from that, American Gods is still an interesting and compelling read. Hopefully, I'm not disappointed by the end, it's a good premise and it'd suck for the actual book to not live up to that....more
