Joseph Reinemann was born in Ithaca, NY in 1985, the son of an electrical engineer and a former peace corps member/grade school science teacher. His first five years were largely spent on the move, including a year spent in Islamabad. In 1990 his family settled in Madison, WI, where he attended school and decided in second grade that writing a novel couldn’t possibly be that hard. After several disillusioning years of work and numerous failed attempts he was forced to revise his position, but kept on writing anyway. In 2003 he was recognized by the National Association for the Advancement of the Arts for his first novel, Shadows of Time. The first is denial - basically I force myself to keep writing something, even if it's not necessarily work that I'm going to end up keeping. Every now and then I'll end up surprising myself and finding a thread I can follow my way back out.
The second is avoidance. Usually when I've got a block it's only going to extend to whatever I'm working on at the time. I always make it a point to keep numerous projects going so that I can switch over to another one when I get blocked, sometimes the momentum will transfer over to that one and sometimes it won't, but it at least helps me feel less like i'm losing out on productive writing time.
And the final method is just shifting my attention. I never have been able to say why, but I'm not really the kind of writer who seeks out quiet and solitude. I usually do my best work when surrounded by noise and distraction. Find the right spot, and there's always some inspiration to be found out there.(less)

We’ve Moved!

Hello!

It’s been a while, I know. There is a reason for that, though if it’s a good one or not you’ll have to decide for yourself.

Basically, I’m trying to get my house in order as far as marketing. Part of this means getting a twitter account. Another part is finally doing something that I’ve been meaning to do since I first started this experiment: moving the blog onto my own server.
