This is the Bible I always have on my person. It is a great size for carrying in your bag and is an excellent translation.

Despite having used the ESV daily for about 3 years it is still not my favorite translation (too many verses to re-memorize ;) but it is a very good balance. I cannot think of an instance in which I would not recommend this Bible. It is far easier to read than KJV or my beloved NASB, and it remains very faithful to the text. While the NASB works harder to keep the sentence structure of the underlying Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic, the ESV never compromises the original meaning. It simply reorganizes things according to English sentence structure. Whenever I translate from Greek or Hebrew to English I make sure to compare my translation to the NASB and ESV as they almost express the ideas more clearly than I did!
I do wish my tint NASB pocket Bible (size of a deck of playing cards) were not out of print, but this Bible has a more legible font size and is better for evangelism since people can read it more easily and the English is more natural than the NASB.

I am not a big fan of study Bibles, but this one was irresistable. Sure the hundreds of artistic illustrations and dozens of articles by renowned scholars are "neat" but this is a study Bible that is much more than the sum of its parts. The ESV STudy Bible stands head and shoulder above nearly all other study Bibles I have ever used.

Practically, this is a heavy Bible and I am not sure the leather is a better choice than the less attractive hardback as the leather vesion is "floppy." The text is large enough to preach from as long as the graphics do not distract you and you work out regularly (did I mention the Bible is heavy?) I would invest in a decent cover/carrying case or go with the hardback, but I would NOT pass up a decent deal on the ESV Study Bible. It is by far my favorite Study Bible. on days when I am not as excited about picking up the Bible as I should be, this is the version I reach for. It pulls me back in everytime....more
