It can be a lot of effort to motivate yourself to tweak and tweak one tiny passage until it's right. I have to try and ignore the bigger picture and how much time it's taking, and just concentrate on that one section. Otherwise I'd get overwhelmed.(less)

Unless (a) you get obsessively involved (as I do) with the busy contents of your own head, and writing it down is a kind of catharsis (b) you find writing easy and something you can do in your spare time, and/or (c) you have a singular degree of bloody-mindedness that's out of all proportion to the likely rewards involved.
