When writing a bio, how does one truly answer the question: Who am I? I could say I write books and poetry, teach literature and writing courses part-time at a university and conduct writing and meditation workshops. I could add that I speak at conferences about my book, myself and other things. I travel on business and for fun, with my most recent ‘fun’ trips including a trek, river rafting adventure and jungle safari in Nepal, a vacation to Hawaii, a visit with my son and his wife in Canada, a whirlwind tour of New York City, a hike into the depths of the Grand Canyon; two 10-day silent meditation retreats just outside of Yosemite and Sun Valley, respectively; a 600-mile walk along the Camino through Spain; a romantic interlude in Costa R ...more

With the five-year anniversary of this book coming up soon, I'm revisiting it and reviving it in many ways, with an Audible book coming out soon, a newsletter I'm starting for my readers, past and future, and a Five-Year Anniversary Party on Facebook, Twitter Amazon and Goodreads. I also recently finished a literary suspense/thriller called ONCE INTHE MEADOWS, which is currently being reviewed by a freelance editor. Finally, I have written a gift book called THE MUD BUG AND THE WINGED CREATURE, complete with photographs, and am hoping my photographer and I will be completing that project this year.(less)

In fact, I didn't intend to publish this book, which I started just nine months after my husband of 27 years and I separated. In a moment of extreme despair, I wrote a letter to God, crying for help. To my astonishment, I received an answer so full of comfort and wisdom and so far beyond where I was at the time that I continued this correspondence for over a year. It is the record of an extraordinary year during which I journeyed from a woman despairing to a woman empowered.(less)

Happiness

It came to me this morning like a soft feather floating from the sky. And it has stayed with me all day—during the quiet of my meditation time and later, while skiing under the turquoise, sun-kissed sky. And now—this sacred NOW.

Nothing outside of me can ever hold me back or keep me down. Nothing outside of you ever can either. We have everything we need, all the time, to be happy.

Pam Carlquist It came to me this morning like a soft feather floating from the sky.

Of course, like everyone else, I forget. A driver darts out in front of me. The slopes seem overly crowded with skiers. Someone close to me is hurt or sick. If only this could change, or that, I think...

But when I pause to remember what my real goal is—not to change the world so I can be happy but to be happy within the world—this world, just as it is—then everything changes, inside and out. My WORLD changes because I create the world I want FROM WITHIN.
