I felt Wrath’s attention on me as we moved into a narrower street, a constant prickle of energy between my shoulder blades, but he didn’t ask how my grandmother was or offer apologies.
These 2 thoughts are completely unrelated. And this kind of writing continues throughout the whole book, creating a choppy and confusing understanding of what is happening. I think this quote here completely encapsulates the feeling of confusion for me. Her grandmother had gotten hurt pages ago, and then she wonders this wayyy after the fact. I also think this one example shows the author's writing style in this novel. Rather than describing scenes or showing us what happens, we are told. I felt very disconnected from the story the entire time, and if not for this being a book club book, I would have refrained from finishing it. Very unclear why it received such good reviews.
