It's about four siblings who must discern how to respond to the evil that has overtaken their country. It's a story of hope in the midst of darkness and the value of every life, weaving together fictional characters with real historical heroes such as Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Claus von Stauffenberg, and Fabian von Schlabrendorff. Seeing how much my family enjoys it when my mother reads my stories aloud, receiving a message from someone who was encouraged by my books, the excitement of a little girl when I signed her book for her… it’s things like that that remind me just how wonderful it is to be a writer!

Young Washington Movie Review (and reflecting on 250 years of American freedom with gratitude and hope)

I went to see the movie Young Washington in the theater with my family, and I loved it!

When I first learned about this movie, I wondered why they were releasing a movie that covered the French and Indian War, rather than the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence, as we’re celebrating the 250th anniversary of that this year. But after watching the movie, I understood why.

“Place your hand over your heart. Feel that? Feel your heart beating? Do you know what that means? It means you are still alive. And if you are still alive, it means there’s still a purpose for your life.”
Savannah Jane McCrary, The Invisible Guide

“Some bullies can’t just be ignored. They need to be stood up to.”
Savannah Jane McCrary, Trains and Tulips

“Better to be called fool by the world and wise by God than wise by the world and fool by God.”
Savannah Jane McCrary, Trains and Tulips

“Good writers don’t moralize, nor do they preach, but they do create longing for the true and the beautiful, and that is why you must write with Christ at the center of your reason for writing. That does not mean that every book must be a retelling of Luke’s gospel, however, every worthy book written by a Christian will direct readers away from self, and sin, and put them on a quest for God and his gospel. Create longing for these things.”
Douglas Bond

“God never witholds from His child that which His love and wisdom call good. God's refusals are always merciful -- "severe mercies" at times but mercies all the same. God never denies us our hearts desire except to give us something better.”
Elisabeth Elliot

“No matter what anyone thinks of us, we live as Christians. Not in our own strength, but in the might and power of Jesus Christ. We do justly. We love mercy. We’re humble. We stop focusing so much on ourselves—our comforts, our dreams and desires—instead focusing on the One who made us and the ones He calls us to serve. We stand for life, rescue and defend the weak and helpless. We aren’t afraid to say something is wrong even when it seems like the whole world applauds it. We forgive. We stand on the Word of God. We’re not interested in the things the world applauds and says is important because we have something better. Jesus. And above all else, we share His truth. Everything we do is for Him. Nothing is more important to us than Him. And we’re willing to give our all for Him.”
Savannah Jane McCrary, Do Justly: The Call to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus in the Midst of Injustice

“Place your hand over your heart. Feel that? Feel your heart beating? Do you know what that means? It means you are still alive. And if you are still alive, it means there’s still a purpose for your life.”
Savannah Jane McCrary, The Invisible Guide

“Though darkness now surrounds me,
And I cannot see the light,
I will trust the purpose I cannot see,
I’ll not surrender to the night.”
Savannah Jane McCrary, The Invisible Guide
