Former home school mom turned superhero fiction writer, C.R. Flamingbush always has some wild new idea up her sleeve. Whether composing wall murals that open doors to other realms or designing unique methods of distributing her stories, this inventive grandmother of one has been known to steal her husband's pens and paint the ceilings red (not necessarily in that order).

Her grown children still wonder why she didn't teach them more German, having graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in that language. She has a love of foreign languages, having minored in linguistics, and has always liked creative writing. She has also been known to come up with some pretty crazy cartoons and has illustrated several children's books. Ironicall

It's a heart matter, but often we don't know what's in our hearts until we get it out on paper. I go about it prayerfully, with thanksgiving and praise, which always puts me in a better frame of mind. As I write down my thoughts, I often discover what's holding me back. Usually there's a relationship issue. I may be feeling guilty over something mean I said to someone. Or perhaps I'm feeling unjustly condemned by something someone said to me. Once I figure out the source of the block and deal with it, the ideas start to flow again. It doesn't always happen fast, and I can't say I do it perfectly, but what I have discovered is that a positive frame of mind is key to overcoming writer's block. (My first real case of writer's block came during the editing process, because it involved so much critiquing - it's hard to go with the flow when you feel like you'll never get your book done). That's because, if you want your book to sell, you really need know the message you're trying to convey. Knowing what you want to say in turn breeds confidence. I'm always learning something new. Book Genre: Figuring Out My Audience

Defining book genre can be tricky. Who is my book really for? That's what I keep asking myself. After years of being reminded of how long it has taken to write ("You've slaved over it for ten years. Isn't it done yet?")
Yes, finally, after many grueling edits, it is done. I felt I gave it my best shot. Yet, I know it could still be better. For those who say that family tends to tell you only how m Read more of this blog post »
