"Well, if twisty and twistier is your reading choice then look no further! I’ve read a couple of book by Louise Candlish before and enjoyed them but in my opinion this is far and away the best. The drama (and there’s plenty of it) starts on 27th Decem" Read more of this review »

"Wow! This is my first waltz with this author and I don’t want the music stop! As soon as my dance ends, I have to hurry up to buy her previous works!

I rounded this up to 4 from 3.5. There were some plot issues (her old house? The baby doll in the bed? What the heck happened there??) but from the writer’s ability to weave a story and develop real characters, I blame the editor. Someone must have c ...more

Anita Shreve
“The things that don't happen to us that we'll never know didn't happen to us. The nonstories. The extra minute to find the briefcase that makes you late to the spot where a tractor trailer mauled another car instead of yours. The woman you didn't meet because she couldn't get a taxi to the party you had to leave early from. All of life is a series of nonstories if you look at it that way. We just don't know what they are.”
Anita Shreve

Anita Shreve
“A person walks into a room and says hello, and your life takes a course for which you are not prepared. It's a tiny moment (almost-but not quite-unremarkable), the beginning of a hundred thousand tiny moments and some larger ones.”
Anita Shreve, Eden Close

Ursula Hegi
“That's the nature of being a parent, Sabine has discovered. You'll love your children far more than you ever loved your parents, and -- in the recognition that your own children cannot fathom the depth of your love -- you come to understand the tragic, unrequited love of your own parents.”
Ursula Hegi

“Dear Lord, please show me everything I need to understand about forgiveness and surrender”

“At some point, you gotta let go, and sit still, and allow contentment to come to you.”
