The Summer I Turned Pretty is a great teen read, which captivates most teenager’s favorite season, summer. The feeling of summer love, and furthermore a first love, is well described throughout the book. Comparing the summers past and the summer present, the story is told from Belly’s view. In comparison to her best friend, Taylor, Belly was never known as the pretty one, nor did she ever feel like she was a pretty girl. This year, as it is evident that Belly has matured in more than one way, the boys in the house continue pick on her. Belly stands her ground and does not allow any of them to push her around. This is what has separated this summer from all the rest.

Belly has been crushing on Conrad for as long as she can remember, but because she believed that there was never a chance for her to be with him, she has somewhat gotten over him. Its different this summer as Belly returns to the house because the boys notice her more as the pretty young girl she has become. In order to figure out what she was feeling throughout this complicated situation, she decides to date a local boy.

Adding on to the difficult situation, involving Belly, the boys, Jeremiah and Conrad have been struggling with family issues as well. The boys are unsure whether to share the happenings with Belly, or to keep it a secret and treat her as an outcast, as they have their entire life.

The ultimate question is if Belly will finally be able to figure out what she wants from a boy and a relationship. Will she be able to find peace with the local boy, or one of the boys she has know her entire life. Belly struggles with a sticky situation, and is only trying to find herself throughout the entire process.

The Summer I turned Pretty is a phenomenal read, that will captivate a teenage audience most. It is easy to relate to and is a page turner full of drama. ...more "
