I am curious about the difference between godly ambition and pride/arrogance. I find some Christians fear being ambitious because it looks and feels to them like self-centeredness. Others ARE ambitious but they use people and run over people in their zeal to succeed. Jeremiah warned Baruch, "Do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not" (Jeremiah 45:5). Fear of success can harm the cause of Christ, but we've seen plenty of examples of "success" that also harmed the cause of Christ! How to tell the difference?(less)

Over the years I’ve been impacted by the writings and lives of several figures in church history, particularly Jonathan Edwards, Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, George Whitefield, John Murray, etc.; and more recently by J. I. Packer, R. C. Sproul, John Piper, Tim Keller, and many others.

Another source of inspiration for me is observing people and situations around me. When I see examples of success, significance, conflict, brokenness, humanitarianism, or even hatred and prejudice, I want to write down my feelings and reactions about what I've observed. Writing helps me process life.(less)
