"Picked this up after Stevenson's short story collection and I'm beginning to draw a comparison between the two. Stevenson's tales are more atmospheric as is expected of Gothic horror while James' leans more into realism and dry humor. Also, his kind of ghosts aren't the ones you can do something about. Either they leave on their own or you do. Starting to fall in love with it since The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral." Apr 27, 2026 02:22AM

"Bad idea to read this in a cafe. I think I've already laughed out loud twice.
"I guess it's true what they say about love — oh what was it? About moving mountains?"
"I think you're talking about faith, sunbae."

"MC: Henry is the model husband, restored my faith in romance. (Doesn't say why)
MC, literally two pages later: I thought he'd be more around since my sister got pregnant (high risk).

Can't decide yet if it's an inconsistency or is there a secret commentary here 🤭"

“How many times, for instance, I'd take offense out of the blue, for no good reason, deliberately; I know well that there was nothing to be offended at, that I was playacting, but in the end I'd bring myself to such a state that the offense would become real.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky, Notes from Underground
