" This summer, I started to read a literary classic "The old man and the sea". When I first heard the name, I thought that would be somehow about the old man and the sea he loved the most. However, when I gradually started to read the book, I realized This summer, I started to read a literary classic "The old man and the sea". When I first heard the name, I thought that would be somehow about the old man and the sea he loved the most. However, when I gradually started to read the book, I realized how profound the book is. Santiago, the old man, who was a poor and hopeless man at first, who hadn't get a fish for eighty-four days, started to sail in the sea on the eighty-fifth day, he eventually fished up a big marlin. However, after the severe fighting and struggling with the sharks, the marlin only left bones and he took the bones to the town. I thought that the old man was perseveranced and inspiring. He was also the best representation of the words" Never say never" and " Never give up". The word in the novel "people not live for failure, a man can be killed, but never be conquered" really impressed and influenced me a lot.

In many people's point of view, an old fisherman may always be a failure. Hemingway wrote an encouraging story how old man overcame all the troubles and difficulties. The old man makes me think of an famous saying" A man's power and age could be restricted, but the spirit is always eternal.

In addition, the small boy also plays an important role in the story. He may be the main supporter of the old man. When the old man was on the sea, he always complained how great it would be if the boy accompanied him. The old man loved the boy as my grandpa loves me. My grandpa is a considerate guy. He always takes care of me when I'm sick and disappointed, and we usually play basketball together in the spare time. I think my grandpa's love is just like the old man's love for the boy, permanently constant.

Hemingway's books and stories are always creative and fascinating among enormous famous masterpieces. His writing skills and habits really support and help him a lot. For example, the similes in his books always prompt Hemingway achieve and zenith of the literature. I selected a typical simile from the book, " his eyes were the same color as the sea". It compares between old man's eye and blue sea. And because of the totally book is talking about the old man and the sea. So therefore Hemingway precisely used this simile to correspond with the title of the book and the whole story. That can help us link up and understand the story more better. That would also give readers the picture about how the experienced old man looked like and his beautiful sea-blue eyes. That undoubtedly will attract readers to make their own images.

Hemingway's works are always free and imaginative. He always explicitly expressed what he was going to say. He didn’t explain too much on the stuff, that point makes his story more straightforward. In addition, I realize that his novel and writing strategy is pretty meaningful. He simply used short and brief simile to provide readers enough space to imagine on their owns. That is the most essential part in his fiction. Whenever we read his novels, there always has a scene about the story in our mind, and we can speculate and predict what will happen next. That's really fascinating. I think maybe we can learn a lot of new writing skills and style from Hemingway's works and that would definitely improve and polish our writing skills. ...more "
