Ashley began writing at the age of 12. Upon discovering the macabre work of Edgar Allan Poe, she took a borderline obsessive interest in writing horror and dark fantasy poetry and even a few fantasy novels. Her favorite authors of horror and fantasy at that time were Stephen King, Dean Koontz, J.R.R. Tolkien, Piers Anthony, and Brian Jacques who also influenced her work.

I never actually called my poetry Weird first. I was told that my poetry was Weird and so I just went with it. I am still immersing myself with Weird literature and I would say that Weird, to me, has a lot to do with atmosphere and the unexplained. Rich language, vivid imagery, and tension with always a supernatural element. My poetry is rich with imagery and language, which I think is also important when writing Gothic poetry, so I think my poetry straddles the lines between the two. (less)

They're dark, accepting of out of the norm appearances and personalities, still passionately in love, romantic, outgoing, loyal, adventurous, and make a great team. Each of them are strong when the other is not and neither are afraid to fight for the other no matter what peril they are in. I absolutely love them. (less)
