I was born in Washington, DC, USA and spent my childhood in Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan. When my father retired from the U.S. Foreign Service, we returned to his home state of Hawaii, where I completed high school. Since then, I’ve lived in Massachusetts, Washington and Wisconsin. I currrently live in Chicago with my spouse. We have two cats.

I play drums and sing in bands, and I'm somewhat of a fitness fanatic. I have a non-exciting "straight job" that allows me to keep a roof over my head and put food in my mouth. And I write stories.

When I was about 10, my parents gave me Isaac Asimov’s The Caves of Steel and The Gods Themselves. Science fiction isn't the only genre I'm interested in, but it's the one that has influenced me most s ...more
