He gained fluency in a new language, explored business opportunities, and spent quality time with his family before starting the next phase of his professional life fully energized.

With The Gift of Job Loss, Froehls hopes to impart his perspective to others, specifically, corporate audiences, encouraging them to delay the job search and engage in activities that make them more marketable, healthy and happy. In short: to invest their time after job loss strategically.

Michaels perspective on job loss might seem unconventional to most Americans who are on the work till you die program and tend to forget about the pursuit of happiness outside of work. Originally from Germany, Michaels approach to optimizing his time holistically when the opportunity presented itself echoes Europes more balanced approach to life: while Europeans work hard, they enjoy an average five to six week vacation each year. America, however, has been dubbed the No Vacation Nation, and is the only advanced economy in the world that doesnt guarantee paid time off. A 2009 Expedia survey reported 1/3 of American workers dont even use all their vacation time.

A truly global professional, Michael has studied, lived and worked around the world, from Europe to South America. An avid adventure traveler, Michael has journeyed to more than 50 countries, including India
and China. From his travels he has gained an extensive knowledge of local business cultures around the world and is considered an expert in international business. He is fluent in four languages: English, German, French and Spanish.

Michael holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Trier in Germany, and an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. He is the founder of The Froehls Group, LLC, a boutique management consulting and publishing company. He is also a guest lecturer on contemporary business topics at MBA/Executive MBA programs.

Michael is an opera aficionado and enjoys playing classical music on the piano. He resides in Austin, Texas.
