I was born in a small town in rural Iowa. This is the only thing I have in common with Captain Kirk. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I lived in Bogota, Colombia, and San Salvador, El Salvador where my parents taught in American-curriculum schools. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with ancient sites and decided I wanted to study them. Twenty years later, I am a contract archaeologist working in the US Southwest. All along the way, I have tried, and usually failed, to write science fiction and fantasy novels. I have reams of paper filled with hand-drawn maps of places that mattered a great deal to me when I made them up, but which are now all but forgotten.
