Hi Denise! Nice to meet you!

I love playful kitties! Our girl Cloudy is 11 this year, but she's still incredibly silly and fun. She likes to show off whenever we have company, and she even knows a handful of commands. (Whether she does them or not depends entirely on her mood, of course...)

It took me five years to write Whispers in the Branches, but it found a publishing home really quickly, which was such a blessing. I think I'd been querying for a month or two when my publisher-to-be requested the manuscript.

"Why a ghost?" is a good question--I know it's an unusual choice for Christian fiction. My inspiration came from a family story about my great-grandmother desperately wanting something that was never to be. That resonated with me, especially in the ways a deep longing might influence what a person decides to believe is true. Without giving anything away, Whispers in the Branches is more a story about faith and doubt than it is a story about a ghost.

Thanks for being the very first to ask me a question on Goodreads! Hope you're having a great week so far! :D(less)

“When a Southern woman offers you a homecooked meal, you're only rude if you refuse. That goes for seconds and thirds too, by the way." -Ruby Watts”
Brandy Heineman, Whispers in the Branches

“The past never quite disappeared, did it? Folks usually thought time moved forward, starting on the left and riding a right-pointing arrow into the future. Ruby didn't believe that. The future twisted uncertain, a shapeless dream, but the past - the past was set. It cast evidence behind it, photos and letters and bones, piling up in hidden places, waiting for the chance to spill out. An avalanche. A burial. The past consumed the future, always.”
Brandy Heineman

“I didn't realize. I wasn't trying to rewrite history.

You couldn't if you wanted to. It already happened. It don't matter if anyone remembers it or not. He paused. Abbs, you're tryin' to find hope in the past, but the world and its lusts are passing away. Hope belongs to the future. -Abby Wells and Will Laughlin”
