Henry Ashford is a British author of historical fiction, with a particular interest in forgotten wars, overlooked campaigns and the less familiar corners of history.

An avid reader of historical fiction himself, he became increasingly interested in periods and places that had not already been explored repeatedly by the genre. His novels are set against real historical events, but the battles and campaigns are only part of the story. The lives of the people who experienced them — what they ate, wore, carried and did when they weren't fighting — are equally important.

I made some wonderful discoveries today,

I simply can't stop searching for original documents and photographs, even after the book has been published.

This is an advertisement by BP in 1925 that shows a print of the construction of the pipeline from the Wells of Soleyman to Abadan in 1909.
