Will said: " Fevre Dream is an historical fiction novel describing two story lines in the parts i'm at right now. One story line is about Abner Marsh and Joshua York, and the other about Sour Billy Tipton and Julian. One story line is about Abner Marsh and Joshua York, and the other about Sour Billy Tipton and Julian. The first story line features the main character and this story lines point of view Abner Marsh. He is simple minded and has a great passion for steam boats. He designed and captains the steam boat Joshua York bought called Fevre Dream. Joshua York is a man who likes the dark, and hates to be questioned about his motives. They're both trying to prove to the steamers in America that the Fevre Dream is the best in the country. Many on the Fevre Dream is weary of Joshua as he only spends time outside at night, and has friends that're very odd to the passengers on the Fevre Dream. The purpose of Joshua's quest for building and manning this steamer is still unknown, but it seems he is trying to find the "people" in the second story line. The second story line includes sour Billy Tipton, a man who does all the dirty work for his boss Julian; a plantation owner who has a very dark secret. Julian is a vampire and has many other vampires living with him also on his plantation in New Orleans. Billy Tipton wants to become a vampire also, but is denied by Julian because he still has to do everything for Julian during the daytime. So, that is a small summary of what I've read so far, but for the big picture I would say if you don't like reading books with racial slurs then this book is not for you. No, George is not a bigot, he had to write the book as historically accurate as possible, especially with a lot of the story happening in the southern part of the united states. Also if you don't like someone gushing over a steam boat then i'd also recommend not to read this story. But, overall I really do like the book and can't wait to see what's next in store for this novel.
Review part 2
Well.... This book has taken quite a turn since I wrote my last review. Babies are getting mutilated and heads are being smashed in by simple minded Hairy Mike Dunne. The two story lines I mentioned in the last review are now one, as Joshua York's mission was to find Julian and I am not going to spoil as of why. During the events leading up to where I am at now Mr. Marsh has learned many things and has to make choices that even a Harvard grad would have trouble with deciphering which outcome would be the best, and I guarantee he is not a Harvard grad. George R.R. Martin is providing me more proof that he is the best author in the world by writing this master piece even before a Game of Thrones was released in the 90's. His use of trying to convince you that a person is a certain creature by showing you characteristics that are normally detrimental to that said creature, like mirrors and silver around vampire, by making those irrelevant in this story, and makes you question if these type of creatures are all connected in a way. I know they are fictional monsters, but George makes you think about if all monsters are one in the same, and humans just put names to them. I can't wait to read the ending to this great novel, and the ending of Abner Marsh's and Joshua York's adventure on a steam boat called the Fevre Dream! ...more "
