Jass Richards (jassrichards.com) has, surprisingly enough (or not), a Master’s degree in Philosophy and for a (very) brief time was a stand-up comic (now she’s more of a sprawled-on-the-couch comic). Despite these attributes, she has received four Ontario Arts Council grants.

This Will Not Look Good on My Resume was shortlisted for the Rubery Award (and reportedly made one reader snort root beer out her nose), and both TurboJetslams: Proof #29 of the Non-Existence of God (arguably the perfect cottage-warming gift) and License to Do That are on Goodreads' list of Fiction Books That Opened Your Eyes To A Social Or Political Issue. Excerpts from her 12 books have been included in anthologies and on websites, and "Supply Teacher from Hell", a o

Jane Smith is a character in A Philosopher, A Psychologist, and An Extraterrestrial Walk into a Chocolate Bar. And she started this. Everyone else is supposed to finish it. Well, add to it. (It’s unlikely it’ll ever be finished.)

When one of my neighbours developed Alzheimers, he asked three-degreed but female me if I was inter Read more of this blog post »

“Anyone can shoot a moose that's just standing there. If you really wanna brag, hang a pair of chipmunk ears on your wall.”
Jass Richards, This Will Not Look Good on My Resume

“When you’re travelling in different countries and people don’t necessarily speak the language you do, you quickly realize it doesn’t really matter whether you say “Thank you” or “Tousen takk” or “Merci” or “Danke schoen”—as long as you say something and smile, your gratitude will be appreciated and the other person will smile back. So when I got off the bus at the stop for the train station kindly indicated by the driver to whom I’d shown my Eurail pass and then gestured helplessly out at the streets, I smiled at him and said “Your children have fleas.” And sure enough, he smiled back, nodding happily.”
