It was the …moreIn 2003, Hurricane Isabel tore up the east coast of the US and temporarily disrupted water utilities in the Virginia suburb where I lived. It was the first time in my life that nothing happened when I turned on the tap. Suddenly water, something I'd always taken for granted, became rare and precious. The seed of "Blue Karma" grew out of this experience. Ten years is a long time to incubate a story idea! By 2013, so many climate events filled the news--droughts, melting polar regions, the threat of rising seas--I knew I needed to tell the story before it was no longer fiction.(less)
