I'm a pretty meticulous and slow reader, so I tend to avoid stories with too much extraneous detail that doesn't advance the narrative. I go straight for the story. The activity. The scenes that invoke a specific emotion or feeling. I'll admit that Red Hope could've been longer, but Blue Hope is 526 printed pages and I think that's pretty respectable for booklength. I've thought about putting out an "extended" version of Red Hope, but I think my time would be better spent on the next book. (less)

“There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the Moon howls.” — George Carlin”
John Dreese, Blue Hope

“The young engineer smiled. He was bursting to ask a question. “Do you think we’ll ever see the Mars crew alive again?” Chris thought for a moment. “I’d like to say yes…” Chris trailed off. He sensed a very morbid turn to the conversation and attempted to resurrect it. “…but we didn’t send them with any potatoes.”
John Dreese, Blue Hope

“the victims are left wondering what they’re going to do with forty-five tons of canned beets and a thousand gallons of Red Bull.”
