I don't have a summer reading list. It's a year-round thing with me.

I'm currently reading Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. I needed a feel-good read and so far it's a very cozy and nostalgic one.

Before that, I discovered a new author (new to me), Tom Robbins. I really enjoyed his Villa Incognito and want to read his others. He's equal part snarky, smart, and irreverent, a very beguiling combination.

I normally select my books from my library. There are shelves of unread material all over our house. I have a very Zen belief in reading that "when the student is ready, the teacher will come." And I have tons of books I'm just not ready for. (Hello, Umberto Ecco. I'm talking to you.)(less)

Ernest Hemingway
“I loved to take her hair down and she sat on the bed and kept very still, except suddenly she would dip down to kiss me while I was doing it, and I would take out the pins and lay them on the sheet and it would be loose and I would watch her while she kept very still and then take out the last two pins and it would all come down and she would drop her head and we would both be inside of it, and it was the feeling of inside a tent or behind a falls.”
Ernest Hemingway

Stephen King
“There are books full of great writing that don't have very good stories. Read sometimes for the story... don't be like the book-snobs who won't do that. Read sometimes for the words--the language. Don't be like the play-it-safers who won't do that. But when you find a book that has both a good story and good words, treasure that book.”
Stephen King

Seth Godin
“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don't need to escape from.”
Seth Godin
