I used to think I had a talent for shrinking all clothing no matter how carefully I selected the settings or timed it "just right." All I had to do was pop it in the dryer without meaning to do it, and Shrunk! Down to a perfect, wearable size. I was so good (bad!) at it that my husband to this day still purchases every T-Shirt a size or two bigger than his normal size. It worked every time.

Until it stopped working. About two years or so ago, the dryer became selective. Now it only sometimes shrinks our purposely-oversized clothing items. No, it's not that the new items are pre-shrunk. How do I know? Because the dryer now shrinks old clothes that had never ever before been a problem --clothes dried many times many times before without shrinking, like our undies, pajamas, etc.

I didn't think much of it. But then I read the picture book "Creepy Carrots" by Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown. Maybe it's trying to tell me something? I don't know, but I'm certainly keeping an eye on that dryer. ;) (less)
