" Lord of the Flies is a fiction book that was written by William Golding in 1954. The theme of the book is savagery and human nature’s response to civilization. There is also a lot of symbolism in the book that William put into context.
In the beginn Lord of the Flies is a fiction book that was written by William Golding in 1954. The theme of the book is savagery and human nature’s response to civilization. There is also a lot of symbolism in the book that William put into context.
In the beginning of the book, a group of British schoolboys survive a plane crash and land on an uninhabited island out in the middle of the ocean. We meet Ralph, the main character, and he blows a conch shell to find all of the other boys. Then we are introduced to Piggy, Johnny, the twins Sam and Eric, Roger, Jack who is the leader of the boys choir, Simon, and a whole bunch of “littluns” who are all of the little children since they are from ages 6-12. At first, the boys are very excited because they have so much freedom and there is no one else on the island. They hunt, swim, eat fruit, and they enjoy exploring the whole island. Ralph is chosen leader and Jack gets upset by that because he feels that he is strongest; and they fight for the rest of the book. Jack and his clan break off from the rest of the children and he teaches them to forget society and turn savage. From this point on, it seems like only Piggy and Ralph still have their minds. The book takes a turn when people start getting seriously injured and fear, chaos, and death start to plague the island. The littluns are afraid because they do not have any adults and the other boys are harsh on them. They start having nightmares and talking about a “beast” that is roaming the island and near the end of the book, we realize the beasts are themselves and how evolution has turned human nature and civilization around.
I personally enjoyed this book because it kept your attention and the author described the scenery so well, it almost felt like you were there on that island with them. The characters and their actions were also described vividly so that you really get to see their personalities.
I would recommend reading this book because it is a classic literature piece and the author William kept it very exciting. There are so many concepts, theories, and symbolism that are put into the book so that you will remember it forever and it goes into a deeper level in your mind and heart. ...more "
