I am a Canadian author whose first seventy years have been shaped by extensive exploration, lifelong learning, and travel across the globe. Early inspirations arose from immersing myself in the great fantasy and science-fiction classics, Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Herbert’s Dune series, and Asimov’s Foundation series, which helped ignite the imaginative foundation for my Utopia Epic Fantasy series.

My writing is also informed by my lived experience as a member of the LGBTQ community, allowing subtle elements of that identity to enrich the worlds and characters I create.

That said, there can be no doubt my vision, and any artist’s vision, has its roots in this life and this world. There are two types of influences on an artist’s life. One is superficial, you see a puzzle piece on some other board and grab it and find it fits perfectly on your own board. This is conscious, overt borrowing and every artist does it. The other form of influence is far deeper. This comes out of cumulative life experience. It is like a midden heap, or compost heap, at the bottom of the garden. You keep on adding new layers to it and are not surprised when some rogue seed sprouts out of it. Cumulative life experience is like that. Layer upon layer of life, covering over and merging with other layers to make one steaming, fermenting mass. The older the artist gets, the deeper this ocean of richness for the creative mind becomes. The majority of elements of my universe have sprung suddenly out of it, as Athena burst out of the head of Zeus. All of this said, while there are some life experiences that find their way into my novels, the true mystery imparted is that of my cumulative life experience and what it engenders.(less)

Just Breathe is packed with emotion, tension, and real-life struggles. The character dynamics are compelling, especially the slow-burn bond between Jay and Emma. This is a story that grips you, breaks your heart, and pieces it back together.
Knife by Salman Rushdie
“We are engaged in a world war of stories—a war between incompatible versions of reality—and we need to learn how to fight it. A tyrant has arisen in Russia and brutality engulfs Ukraine, whose people, led by a satirist turned hero, offer heroic resistance, and are already creating a legend of freedom. The tyrant creates false narratives to justify his assault—the Ukrainians are Nazis, and Russia is menaced by Western conspiracies. He seeks to brainwash his own citizens with such lying stories. Meanwhile, America is sliding back towards the Middle Ages, as white supremacy exerts itself not only over Black bodies, but over women’s bodies too. False narratives rooted in antiquated religiosity and bigoted ideas from hundreds of years ago are used to justify this, and find willing audiences and believers. In India, religious sectarianism and political authoritarianism go hand in hand, and violence grows as democracy dies. Once again, false narratives of Indian history are in play, narrativ ...more Salman Rushdie

Aldous Huxley
“Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand.”
Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Oscar Wilde
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”
Oscar Wilde

“On religions: He who knows one, knows none.”
Friedrich Max Müller

Julian Barnes
“Monomania. Monogamy. Monotony. Nothing good begins this way.”
Julian Barnes, Elizabeth Finch

Niccolò Machiavelli
“When evening has come, I return to my house and go into my study. At the door I take off my clothes of the day, covered with mud and mire, and I put on my regal and courtly garments; and decently reclothed, I enter the ancient courts of ancient men, where, received by them lovingly, I feed on the food that alone is mine and that I was born for. There I am not ashamed to speak with them and to ask them the reason for their actions; and they in their humanity reply to me. And for the space of four hours I feel no boredom, I forget every pain, I do not fear poverty, death does not frighten me. I deliver myself entirely to them.”
Niccolò Machiavelli, The Prince
