Dankzij de droge humor e ...more

"This novel is like an onion, there are so many themes and ideas: people as machines, race, free will, overpopulation, power of advertisement, ideas as disease, land ownership, communism, the power of symbols, polution, suicide, and probably a couple " Read more of this review »

Entertaining enough, yet clumsily written and riddled with Hollywood clichés. Most of the dialogue between the two main cops is just dry exposition and all the women in this book are pretty and hot for the impressively muscular main character (apart ...more

"Aside from being poorly written, this book isn't a big fan of women. Or black men. Or sex workers. Or queer people. It sure does love its prodigal detective who's handsome and brilliant (as shown when he gives... completely random or very obvious fac" Read more of this review »

"Very cliché and narrowminded portrait of an alcoholic coldhearted white male character. It bothered me a lot that most of the women in the book were portrayed as fragile, whores, pretty and very one dimensional. None of the woman had an important rol" Read more of this review »

Checks a lot of boxes on the Murakami bingo card (cats, jazz, pasta, American literature, earlobes etc.) but ultimately disappointing. Too much repetition and too many infodumps, and it feels like M just threw a lot of spare ideas in there to stretch ...more
