Theresa Mieczkowski is a writer and life strategist from Woodbury, Ct. She lives with her husband, three kids and two dogs, Potter and Padfoot.
Theresa knew she wanted to be a writer from a very young age but after some detours sought an education in psychology and dedicated her life to being an advocate for people in need of motivation and positive change. After many years of raising kids she finally finished working on the story she started as an undergrad and authored When I Was Jane, a psych thriller that infuses humor, romance and inspiration into its suspenseful story.
This is her first published book but definitely not her last!

The reason that my editor's name appears on my book is because I felt that the work she put into my project deserved the recognition. I don't know if it is something people do or not and I don't think there is a rule about it. But I can explain it like this. There are different types of editors. Structural editors do basic structure, grammar and spelling. Content editors suggest word changes and get into the content of the story. DEVELOPMENT editors, (which Margo Navage-Padala, my editor is) help you to develop the characters and the story to their fullest potential. Margo worked with me for a long time helping me polish my words and had me re-write several passages over and over again. She worked on flow and how I needed to pull back in some parts or give more in others. She pushed me very hard to develop the voices of the characters I was struggling with. The last page of the book-which is my favorite- is something that she rearranged to make the words that I had written sound better than I knew they could. So I think in my case, I needed to make sure that she was given the credit for the finished product of the book which was better as a result of her editing. It is a long an arduous process and I think anyone who can stick with a writer for that many months and help you be a stronger writer does need to be recognized for the work they put in to make the book what it is-which is something that both Margo and I are very proud of. I know there are many editors that feel they do a lot of work behind the scenes that people will never know about and I did not want her work to be unrecognized. If you can find an editor you can work with like that I would suggest doing it.(less)

I wondered what would (or could) happen to someone if they lost their memories and that was when I invented the character of Jane-more than twenty years ago. She sat in my mind for a long time.(less)

Confessions of a Psych thriller group reject

I can't believe so much has happened in just a few days! Apparently one of my fans nominated me for the book of the month in a discussion group on here and all hell broke loose. Then, the paperback version of my book disappeared from Amazon due to a production error (it is still there but can't be seen online until the problem is addressed tomorrow). Also, I have been accused of paying people to v Read more of this blog post »
